Course Aim
This course is designed for operators who do not hold a certificate or whose certification needs refreshing.
Course Objectives
On completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
Identify their responsibilities under current legislation
- Operate a MEWP safely – reducing the risk of injury to operators and others
- Conduct safety checks on MEWPs. GA1 forms
- Work safely at heights – using the MEWP
- Understand the duties of a MEWP operator
- Position and operate a MEWP correctly and safely
- Identify barriers and signs used in connection with MEWP activities
- Identify and work safely with electricity hazards
- Know the specifications relevant to the operation of the MEWP e.g. safe working loads etc.
- Use operating habits which meet all safety requirements
- Understand the potential consequences of their actions – using the MEWP
- Refuel / recharge MEWPS safely
- Positioning of MEWPS in relation to task
- Understand the relevance of identifying and recording maintenance or operating problems.
Course Content
- Introduction to course – Legislation etc.
- Duties imposed under the Construction Regulations (2006) regarding loads, certificates controls, minimum age etc.
- Explanation, demonstration and practice in the correct procedures to adopt when operating a MEWP
- Accidents – causes and prevention
- Daily safety checks / inspection
- Safe use of outriggers and stabilisers
- Safe operating practices and safety video
- Emergency procedures
- Correct PPE selection and use
- Battery charging and refuelling.
Course Attendance:
Maximum of 6 participants.
½ day for 1 type or 1 day course for both types.
